World-known British cellist Steven Isserlis will perform with the Armenian State Philharmonic Orchestra on December 6. The concert will start with Yervand Yerkanyan’s “Mystery” to mark the 25th anniversary of the devastating earthquake of 1988.

“Steven Isserlis is a musician with the most refined taste I have ever met,” said Edwad Topchyan, conductor of the Armenian State Philharmonic Orchestra.

“I have been periodically visiting Armenia in the course of the past 30 years. I was first here in 1984, and this is my seventh visit. I love Armenia,” the cellist said.

“Everywhere in the world I play somebody comes up to me and says ‘I heard you in Yerevan.” I love many things about Armenia, first of all the warmth of the people,” he said.

The December 13th concert of the Philharmonic Orchestra featuring Germany-based pianist Lusine Khachatryan will be dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas.

The season will be concluded by concerts dedicated to Barsegh Tumanyan’s 55tha nd Hovhannes Chekijian’s 85th birthdays.
