Armenia team ask head coach to stay

Players of the Armenian national team have applied to head coach Vardan Minasyan to reconsider his decision to resign and stay with the team. An open letter posted on the official website of the Football Federation of Armenia reads, in part:

“Of course, we respect Vardan Minasyan’s decision, but we would like him to refuse from it. We have passed a difficult path with Vardan Minasyan over the past four years. We have managed to create a united team and fight for victories to rejoice our fans.”

“A positive atmosphere and good relations have been established in the team under Vardan Minasyan’s leadership.  We have had good professional experience with Vardan Minasyan, and we would like to continue to work together to earn a place in the finals of the next qualification campaign,” the letter reads.

Head coach of the Armenian national team Vardan Minasyan declared yesterday he would not extend the contract, which expires on October 31. “It would be an honor for me to continue to head the Armenian national team, but now I prefer another turn in my career. I have some offers, from abroad in particular, and want to discuss them,” he said.

Minasysn took over the team in 2009 and helped it rise in the FIFA rankings up to 38th place.
