Armenia Model European Union Conference 2013

AEGEE-Yerevan Youth NGO and the EU Delegation to Armenia will launch the “Armenia Model European Union 2013” Youth Conference (AMEU 2013). This unique youth project will be a political simulation conference of the European Parliament activities concentrating on the topic “EU Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius: Towards the Association Agreements”. It will involve young people in a close to real life experience of the EU’s decision-making process. During the conference, participants will play the roles of Members of European Parliament, as well as EU high-level officials. The conference will take place on 19-20 October.

Mr Traian Hristea, the Head of the EU Delegation in the Republic of Armenia, and Mr Erikas Petrikas, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania in the Republic of Armenia, will attend the opening ceremony of the Conference and will deliver welcoming speeches.

More than 100 Armenian students and activists from various regions of Armenia and 12 international participants from different European countries (Greece, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Austria, Moldova and etc.) will participate in the project, after being selected through a competitive two phase procedure from around 300 applicants.

During the AMEU 2013 the participants will simulate the activities of the European Parliament, which is the only directly elected institution in the EU. The participants of AMEU 2013 have already been divided to the respective political groups which are represented in the real European Parliament and during the Conference they should make their decisions in the context of the on-going political developments and pressures within the European Union, taking into account the national interests of the EU citizens groups that they represent at the Parliament.

During the weeks prior to the Armenia Model EU 2013, the selected participants had the opportunity to learn about the legislative procedures of the EU Parliament and about its policy in the field of enlargement and European integration thanks to the support and assistance of field experts who gladly provided 2 big training sessions. The participants will have a possibility also to improve their negotiation skills, as well as practice English, which will be the official working language of the Conference. The main aim of the event is to stimulate civic activism and improve the EU related knowledge and level of European awareness among the young people.
