PACE autumn session kicks off in Strasbourg

The autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe kicked off in Strasbourg today. Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian spoke at the session today in the capacity of the Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Armenia will hold the presidency until November.

On the opening day of the session Armenian presented a gift to the Parliamentary Assembly that will always remind of the Armenian presidency. In his opening address, PACE President Jean-Claude express gratitude to the Armenian authorities for the magnificent stained-glass windows embellishing the upper facade of the Assembly Chamber.

“This mosaic of bridges winding towards a single goal will henceforth accompany us in our work,” he said.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan is also expected to speak at the Parliamentary Assembly on October 2.

“President of the Republic of Armenia, Mr Sargsyan, the President of the Republic of Serbia, Mr Nikolic, the Speaker of the State Duma, Mr Naryshkin, and the Chairperson of the Committee of Ministers, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Mr Nalbandian,” Mr. Mignon said, adding that “the fact that these eminent figures are coming to address the Assembly testifies to their support for the European project and the values promoted by the Council of Europe – democracy, human rights and the rule of law.”
