Aramais Dallakyan to replace Roman Abramovich as Speaker of Chukotka regional assembly

Billionaire Roman Abramovich has resigned from his only government post – chairmanship of the Chukotka regional assembly – to avoid falling foul of a new law banning officials from holding assets abroad, RIA Novosti reports.

Abramovich had been Chukotka’s Duma Speaker since 2008. He also served as the Far East district’s governor from 2000-08.

The post of Chukotka Duma speaker will be assumed by Abramovich’s ally — former regional deputy governor Aramais Dallakyan.
