Eurovision scandal on diplomatic level: Russia vows response to ‘nul points’ from Azerbaijan

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said it is outrageous that the votes given by Azerbaijan to the entry from Russian performer at Eurovision Song Contest 2013 were not counted, Interfax reports.

This disgraceful action will get a response, Lavrov said. Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov and Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov spoke about the scandal around points in Eurovision during the negotiations in Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry says.

Moscow is unhappy with the fact that the votes of the Russian singer in Eurovision were stolen, Lavrov said at a joint press conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart.

Azerbaijan gave no points to Russia at Eurovision, while received the maximum 12 points from the latter.

“We agreed with Elmar Mammadyarov to coordinate our actions to respond to this outrageous act after the Azerbaijani Public Television clarifies the legal aspects,” Lavrov said, according to RIA Novosti.

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has ordered an inquiry into why his country gave Russia “nul points” at Saturday’s Eurovision Song Contest.
