Baku-born Armenian intends to run for President in Azerbaijan

Baku-born Grigori Ayvazyan, who currently heads the Assembly of Azerbaijani Armenians, has revealed his plans to run for president in Azerbaijan.

A relevant application has been sent to Azerbaijan, Ayvazyan told a press conference in Yerevan. “If Azerbaijan refuses to register me as a candidate, it will once again prove it’s a fascist state,” he said.

“As a citizen of Azerbaijan, I have full rights to run in the elections. Although I’m an Armenian, I’m a citizen of Azerbaijan. Likewise, Ilham Aliyev is a citizen of Azerbaijan, but comes from a Kurdish family,” he said, assuring that the next President of Azerbaijan is going to be Armenian.

Grigory Ayvazyan believes he will get 60% of the votes in the Azerbaijani presidential elections. He added also that his participation in the elections will create plurality in Azerbaijan.

Although Ayvazyan is aware of the whole seriousness and dangerousness of the initiative, he’s firm in his decision. If elected, he will first of all solve the Nagorno Karabakh issue.

Azerbaijan is set to hold presidential elections in October. Sixteen candidates have already confirmed their participation.
