Syrian Armenian violinist Tamara Khachatryan to give a concert in Arizona

“A Night in the Courtyard,” a concert featuring Syrian Armenian violinist Tamara Khachatryan, will be held in Tucson, Arizona on May 2, the Arizona Daily Star informs.

Khachatryan is a classically trained concert violinist and music educator. When conflict escalated in Syria, Khachatryan escaped to Lebanon and eventually the United States, where she is requesting asylum with her husband, Fadi Iskandar, and their young daughter. The family arrived in Arizona six months ago and hopes to make Tucson its permanent home.

Khachatryan will perform classical and popular musical selections in several genres, including Irish folk songs and modern jazz. Her husband will accompany her in several selections.

The event is sponsored by Iskashitaa Refugee Network and the YWCA Tucson.
