Liverpool prepared to sacrifice Martin Skrtel to land Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been in superlative form this season and has come into view for Spurs, as Andre Villas-Boas is preparing for the worst case scenario if Gareth Bale leaves,

Brendan Rodgers is gearing up for a busy summer window and Steven Gerrard has already intimated that the club need to make additions to challenge for a top four spot next season.

The Reds are willing to let Martin Skrtel, who has attracted interest from Anzhi and Zenit St Petersburg, leave in order to facilitate a move for Mkhitaryan who could fetch up to £10m.

Skrtel’s agent Karol Ksonto was coy about his client’s Liverpool future and suggested that the situation will be resolved at the end of the season.

Mkhitaryan is viewed as a possible successor to Gerrard, who has been one of Liverpool’s most consistent performers again this season. Mkhitaryan plundered 19 goals in just 20 games for Shakhtar this season.
