European Union supports return and reintegration of Armenians

A new EU funded project Targeted Initiative for Armenia will hold an opening conference in Yerevan on Friday, 22 March 2013. The Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, H.E. Ambassador Triaian Hristea and General Director of French Office for Immigration and Integration Mr Yannick Imbert will deliver welcoming speeches.

According to the Director of the Targeted Initiative for Armenia Ms Virginie Artot, the aim of the project is to strengthen Armenia’s management capacities with a special focus on reintegration activities. “We would work with competent authorities and civil society to increase their capacity to actively support dignified sustainable return and reintegration of Armenians to homeland,” said Ms Artot. “We will also address challenges posed by irregular migration, promote safe and legal migration and strengthen the positive impact of migration on Armenia’s social development,” she added.

The project “Strengthening Armenia’s management capacities, with special focus on reintegration activities in the framework of the EU-Armenia Mobility Partnership” is implemented by the French Office for Immigration and Integration (OFII) with the participation of  organisations and experts from Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and Romania. The budget of the project is three million euros and the duration is three years.
