Armenian President partakes in EPP summit in Brussels

In the framework of his working visit to Belgium, on March 14 President Serzh Sargsyan participated in the Summit of the European People’s Party (EPP). At the Summit discussed were issues related to the political situation in Europe, regulation of the EU financial and economic problems as well as issues related to the prospects of the cooperation in the framework of the Eastern Partnership program.

At the Summit, President Serzh Sargsyan made a statement in which he spoke about the February 18 presidential elections in Armenia, post-election processes, reform process in Armenia as well as about the cooperation in the framework of the Eastern Partnership program and forthcoming steps. In his statement the President of Armenia reiterated Armenia’s determination to carry on with the political line of comprehensive reforms as well as with the Eurointegration process which is a priority of the Armenian foreign policy agenda. Speaking about abuse by some countries of the Eastern Partnership of the European values and cooperation objectives, President Sargsyan noted that Azerbaijan’s “pick and choose” policies regarding these values are unacceptable.

After the Summit, the President of Armenia met with the President of the EPP Wilfried Martens.

At the beginning of the meeting, Serzh Sargsyan expressed gratitude personally to Wilfried Martens and the entire EPP family for the support during the RA presidential elections, as well as for Mr. Martens’ cordial congratulatory letter after the elections and for the positive assessment on progress registered by Armenia.

The parties stressed the importance of deepening the party-to-party cooperation, including in the framework of the inter-parliamentary bodies.

At the meeting, the parties spoke also about regional issues.
