Edward Nalbandian: Neither Armenia, nor Nagorno Karabakh have ever politicized the issue of Stepanakert airport

Neither Armenia, nor Nagorno Karabakh have ever politicized the issue of opening of the Stepanakert airport, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said in Tbilisi in response to the question of the Public Television of Azerbaijan.

“First there is the statement of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs on the opening of the Stepanakert airport. This statement calls on the parties not to politicize the issue,” Minister Nalbandian said.

“Azerbaijan politicizes it every day, therefore violating all commitments it has assumed,” he added.

“Second, the Co-Chairs have urged not to apply force or the threat of force against civilian aircrafts. Neither Armenia, nor Karabakh have ever threatened to use force against civilian planes,” Edward Nalbandian said, adding that “Azerbaijan has threatened and continues to threat to apply force against civilian aircrafts.”

The Minister recalled that the Co-Chairs had noted that the opening of the Stepanakert airport could not predetermine the status of Nagorno Karabakh. “Neither Armenia, nor Karabakh have ever linked the opening of Stepanakert airport to the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh issue, including the status of Artsakh.”

“Officials in both Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh have declared on many occasions that the opening of the Stepanakert airport pursues exceptionally humanitarian and civilian objectives,” the Armenian Minister said.

Edward Nalbandian concluded that “it’s necessary to refrain from aggravating the situation with statements that contradict the approaches of the international community.”
