The Armenian Sociological Association and the Baltic Surveys /The Gallup Organization have conducted a public opinion poll commissioned and financed by ArmNews TV Channel. The survey was conducted between December 5 and 16 among 1,020 adults all over Armenia.

The project aims to study the Armenian public opinion about the social and political issues, to find out the electoral preferences prior to the presidential elections, to examine the sources of information about the political issues.

Thus, two months prior to the elections  incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan has the highest rating (49 %), followed by Gagik Tsarukyan with 21%, member of the Gallup Europe Board of Director Rasa Alisauskiene told reporters today.

According to her, after the statement of Prosperous Armenia Party leader that he will not run for President, 1/3 of his votes will go to Serzh Sargsyan. She added that about 13% of the votes would flow to second President Robert Kocharyan if he entered the race.

The rating of other possible candidates is as follows: Levon Ter-Petrosyan – 6%, Robert Kocharyan – 5%, Vahan Hovhannisyan – 3 %, Arthur Baghdasaryan – 2% and Vartan Oskanian – 1%.

Organizers of the poll say, however, that the results may change connected with different political developments.

The survey has revealed that TV remains the main source of political information for the Armenian citizens.
