FIDE President suggests holding children’s chess tournament in Nagorno Karabakh

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, President of the World Chess Federation (FIDE), proposes organizing a chess tournament in Nagorno Karabakh.

“My idea is as follows: there is a 6-meter-high wall at the Arab-Israeli border, and I propose installing thousands of chess tables and hold a children’s tournament on the area, where construction has not yet been completed,” Ilyumzhinov said.

FIDE President added he had already discussed the idea with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbass. “The same would suit Nagorno Karabakh with Armenian and Azerbaijani children participating,” he stated.
