Uruguay responds to the note of protest of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uruguay has responded to the note of protest of Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the visit of the Uruguayan parliamentary delegation headed by the President of House of Representatives to Nagorno Karabakh.

The note emphasizes that Uruguay’s international activities are based on solid and traditional principles and values such as the sovereignty of states, territorial integrity, self-determination, non-interference in internal affairs, peaceful resolution of conflicts, full respect for international law as well as the fundamental principles of the United Nations of which Uruguay is also a founding member.

The note also highlights that the protection of international peace and security is among main principles of the United Nations Charter which Uruguay supports consistently. In that regard, Uruguay enjoys deep and traditional relations with the Republic o fArmenia and sincere and constructive friendly relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Government of Uruguay’s wish is nothing but to make efforts leading to the resolution of the conflicts between these two friends of Uruguay through understanding, dialogue and other peaceful means that would protect co-existence and cooperation between these two nations. This would undoubtedly lead to the future prosperity of the whole region.

The note also underlines that no action or position of the Republic of Uruguay should be interpreted beyond the above framework and Uruguay pursuing any different intention or aims rather than the above-mentioned is totally untrue, Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
