The population decreased by 130,823 as compared to 2001

A census was conducted in Armenia October 12-21, 2011. The resident population of Armenia numbered 2,871,771 as of October 12, 2011, Karine Kuyumjyan , Head of the Census and Demography Department of the National Statistics Service, said, adding that the number of resident decreased with 130,823 as compared to 2001.

According to the preliminary results, the permanent population of Armenia is 3,018,854, which means a 194,157 decrease as compared to 2001.

Karine Kuyumjyan said 36.7% of the population lives in rural areas, 63.3% – in urban areas. She added that the figures may change; the final results will be available in 2013.
